trees

standing at the window in the kitchen. looking out holding a glass of water in my right hand. emma and parrish were there. we watched the thunderstorm roll over the glistening trees.

june is such a sad month. well, not sad; more like aching. in june i turn another year older. another rotation around the sun.

(and i'm so far away from home)

(last night i dreamed i had returned)

there were two really big trees in hanes park. when you walked within their range, their trunks were around 10 feet apart from each other. but from up on wiley hill, where i sat with zoey, with ahna, with graham, it looked like one tree. the leaves were huge and the branches reached the ground, creating a fortress of green.

in the winter it was easy to see that they were two, but in the summer they merged together, leaves and leaves and leaves.
